Stores that offer convenience and deals are winning, shares todayโs WSJ. Sales at Walmart, Target, and T.J. Maxx are up while theyโre murky at Macyโs, J.C. Penny, and Nordstrom. Just offering deals isnโt enough, nor is just offering next-day delivery. A store is going to have to accept smaller margins via deals and convenience offerings. The alternative is: join Macyโs with its 50% stock drop.
Nordstromโs sales are down 5% and profit fell about $20m.

Hate returns? Today's WSJ reminds us that returns are an opportunity to remarket to customers. The article also shares that about 10% of in-store holiday purchases are returned while up to 30% of online gifts are taken back.
